Deck (New Build):

2 Free standing decks, pressure treated lumber on pier blocks

As requested, the deck height is the same as the kitchen floor

To avoid building permits, the deck height was capped @ 30"

Due to the height constraints, the decks were offset

Finished max height: 29.5"

Step 1) Foundation: excavate, tamp and level, and place our pier blocks

The original concrete pad had to be removed

Using string lines, we aligned our supports

All supports aligned and leveled

Next up: Constructing the Frame

Step 2) Framing: Setting the posts/running boards

Adding structural support to the perimeter

Rinse and Repeat for the other platform

Adding joists and planning deck board termination points

Setting all of the joists

Framing complete!

Beginning with our Split Board and then Laying our Deck Boards

All Deck Boards were spaced 1/4" apart and cut to fit

Excited to be making our final cuts

Deck Rebuild (& Adding Stairs):

A returning customer asked us to re-deck this back porch...

We were instructed to re-use any existing materials possible.

Much was bad, but some was good!

One joist was healthy enough, all others were replaced.

After new joists came the stairs.

In addition, we were also asked to build stairs for the other deck

These stringers were all the same, as the ground was levelled with each one

After the stringers were cut, deck boards were laid.

Much better :-)

Next area needing steps!

Each stair stringer was custom cut to meet the natural grade

Working around this pipe was a bit tricky

Deck (Rebuild & Upgrade):

Before...

Originally, we had only planned on replacing the deck boards...

As we went along, we discovered none of the joists could be re-used

Our customer elected to replace ALL failing wood

After re-inforcing the outer frame, we began on our supports

Then we added our joists

We ended up removing one set of stairs and replacing with new hand rail

We also widened these handrails and stairs

New support posts and fresh new handrails!

Both new sets of stairs were set on pavers

Woohoo! New deck boards going down!

Deck (Rebuild):

Before...

Over the years, a LOT of debris found it's way underneath the old deck

After removing the floor boards, it was time to disassemble the joists and frame

At our clients' request, we salvaged the handrail

Next we cleared all the old leaves, etc. from the area

We stopped work to alert our clients of unknown rot/damage

The existing structure was unsafe to build off of

We also discovered the handrails were no good :-(

Our clients elected to repair the original (rotted) running boards

We used a hydraulic jack to lift the original joists to meet the new running board

New running boards installed

Next we resolved any rot in the original posts

Unsafe sections were replaced with pressure treated 4x4's

Healthy posts were given a good sanding

Then they were double-coated with solid stain

Next we squared the original handrails

(All new lumber was pressure treated and double coated with stain)

New running boards were installed level with the porch deck

After finishing the new frame, we installed joist hangers

Next came measuring, cutting, and installing the joists

All done with the joists!

Ready for new floor boards!

All floor boards were spaced 1/2" apart for the entire run

Client elected to replace the the rotting handrails

The "Final Step"

After

Demolition:

Drywall Repair:

Water heater burst, causing significant damage

Due to rot and mold, the entire panel of sheetrock needed replacement

Cut to fit, light switch cut in, attached to wall, and screw holes mudded over

Matching the original texture

Matching the original paint color

Exterior Painting:

Powerwash, Scrape/Wire brush, Sand, Caulk, etc.

Failing paint (8+ years old)

After inital prep, applying a full coat of primer

Whole House Primer

Starting on Body Color

Applied a total of 2-4 coats in different areas

2 coats on the front

4 coats on this side (worst weathering)

3 coats, next worst weathering

Now starting on trim. 2-3 coats.

Faucet (Kitchen Sink) Replacement:

The existing faucet fell apart...

So we replaced it with a nice upgrade

Converting an old trash shed into a Laundry

1) Remove Garage Doors 2) Frame in walls

After walls, cutting the first window

Next, starting on ceiling joists

Pellet Stove Maintenance and Service:

Upon initial inspection, we didn't even realize there was a glass window the buildup was so extreme.

There was about 1/2"+ of buildup behind the steel panels as well as on the sides, roof, and in the other hard-to-reach-areas.

This meant removing a LOT of ash and other debris.

As you might expect, the exhaust blower was pretty gunked up, too.

After a thorough cleaning inside and out, we put everything back together for a test run.

Exactly how you'd hope it would be.

Using special masonry cutting tools, we carefully removed the window and existing framing
